Mel the Singer
About
I have been a singer of a big band, corporate function bands, Pink Floyd and Suzi Quatro tribute bands, rocks bands, session singer, backing vocalist, part of a duo and as Mel the Solo Singer.
Well, I still sing with bands, but here I will tell you more about the solo act 'Mel'.
I really enjoy singing & gigging.(well, I must do to sacrifice over 20 years of weekend social life). My whole life has revolved around music and singing, and I take great pleasure in entertaining people.
Each venue I perform at has a different clientele and usually a varied audience within, so I tailor each performance to each venue and the audiences needs, as that is what is really important.
I never work to a set list, simply gauge the gig as it progresses and choose songs to sing I feel will suit the mood at that moment.
I have over 600 songs in my repertoire, ranging from oldies to current tunes across just about all commercial genres, and I am constantly learning more, adding to the eclectic list.
So whether a social club that requires a wide variety of popular songs to fill the dancefloor, to a pub that is more suited to alternative pop and rock covers or the care home where the song choices are all about triggering memories and feeling good, I can cater for just about all.
I am a self-contained act, meaning I provide my own equipment and perform.
I have 2k of high quality amplification and the virtual band is neat and compact - thanks to the digital age (pro backing tracks).
During breaks, I can supply background music.
Higher watt amplification and stage/effect lighting is available but not standard.
All I need is a small area to perform, 1 electricity plug point and a table.
I am my own roadie, sound engineer and manager.
It is true, you can't beat the sound and energy of a live band, but I have many positive reasons for booking a solo act.
The volume can be controlled, greater variety of material playable, takes up less space in venue, financial benefits to mention a few.
